Top International Wine Award Goes to Jarvis Wines
The China Wine Awards event just held on September 1, 2011 was the BIGGEST international wine competition ever held in Greater China. Over 1000 wines from 25 countries were tasted and judged. Over 1000 wines from 25 countries were tasted and judged.
Jarvis winery in Napa Valley, California USA received the only two Gold Medals wone by U.S. wineries. The Jarvis Gold Medals were for its Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 and its Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2005. Robert Mondavi Winery, also in Napa Valley, California USA, received the next highest U.S. award with a Silver Medal for its Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006.
The new international award was received by Jarvis just one year after Jarvis won the World Tasting Competition out placing among others the major Premier Cru wineries from Bordeaux, France and the Grand Cru winery from Burgundy, France.
William and Leticia Jarvis acquired their Napa Valley estate in the mid-1980's. Then with Dimitri Tchelistcheff, sho continues as the JARVIS consulting winemaker today, they spent a decade carefully developing the estate vineyards. This was followed by building the cave winery which opened in 1995. Unlike other wineries, JARVIS is totally underground in a 45,000 square foot cave, an eco-friendly facility that houses fully operational wine production and cooperage as well as the winery offices and hospitality space. The focus on quality commenced in the vineyards when they selected just four zones totaling 37 acres from the total 1,320 acre JARVIS Estate. Limited-production, luxury wines that total fewer than 9,000 cases annually are the result of this commitment to quality.
